iOS 11 Beta 1 vs iOS 10.3.2 Speed Test
When Apple unveiled iOS 11 earlier this week at WWDC, it did not tout any speed or performance improvements with the OS. Instead, the latest version of iOS seems to be all about new features and enhancements to existing features to make them even better to use. But does iOS 11 bring about any performance improvements at all?
Speed test videos comparing iOS 11 beta 1 to iOS 10.3.2 by YouTuber iAppleBytes shows that the first beta of iOS 11 is incredibly slow. The boot times on the upcoming version of the OS is incredibly slow, with app loading times also taking a hit. Even benchmark scores are less than ideal when compared to the same iPhone running iOS 10.3.2.
The first iOS 11 beta performs poorly even on older iOS devices like the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s. With Apple dropping support for 32-bit binaries in iOS 11, it was expected that the switch to iOS 11 would lead to some performance improvements on older devices. However, as things stand right now, that does not seem to be the case.
Nonetheless, we are still looking at the first beta of iOS 11 here, and it is a given that Apple will further optimise the OS for better performance and stability in future beta release. Given how poorly iOS 11 beta 1 performs right now, it is not surprising to see Apple not release a public beta of the OS for its testers.
